Terminology
There are many different interpretations of IT architecture. To ensure a common understanding, let's define what we mean by some of the key terms.
Our Definition of the IT Architect
The IT Architect serves as the technical leader of the project and is responsible for defining its architecture including external connections and internal architecture. The architecture must be aligned with business objectives, technical requirements, organizational standards, and applicable constraints.
The IT Architect is not expected to develop code or specialize in a particular programming language. Instead, the architect defines a technology- and language-independent architecture that guides the solution's implementation. The resulting technical requirements and architectural decisions are then translated into code by the development team in collaboration with the IT Architect.
The primary deliverable of the IT Architect is a language- and platform-independent set of functional and non-functional models. Together, these models define a solution architecture that satisfies the project's business and technical requirements.
Certification we refer to
In our view, certifications provided by hyperscalers such as AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure are knowledge-based certifications. They primarily validate an individual's understanding of a specific platform and its ecosystem through training and examination.
These certifications are important and have significant value within the industry. However, our focus is on experience-based certification, which validate what an architect has actually delivered, experienced, and achieved in real-world environments. As a result, hyperscaler certifications fall outside the scope of our services.

The industry standard for us is The Open Group - Open Certified Architect (OpenCA)
We also highly regard certifications offered by the BCS - British Computer Society and IET - Institution of Engineering and Technology
Experience-based certifications validate an architect's real-world accomplishments and professional experience. They demonstrate not only what a person knows, but also what they have delivered, the challenges they have faced, and the lessons they have learned throughout their career.
These certifications are a hallmark of the IT architect profession because they confirm that candidates have met the competency requirements established by the professional community. Certification assessments are conducted by boards of experienced practicing architects who evaluate evidence of professional achievement rather than examination results alone.
